Emo Oil uncovers photographic talent in Calendar Competition

February 2013

A photo competition has revealed some stunning images of Britain’s natural surroundings, and discovered some new talent in two photographers, Gina Barrington and Simon Watterson, whose pictures were chosen as winning entries to appear in the Emo Oil annual calendar.

The competition, organised by heating oil and fuel company, Emo Oil, saw Gina Barrington, from Scholar Green, Stoke on Trent and Simon Watterson, from York, beat off stiff competition from fellow photographers. Gina’s winning entry depicts “Woodside Ducks”, while Simon’s delightful image is of Spurn Head, Humberside.

The competition invited local communities across the UK to take inspiration from the wildlife and natural environment that surrounds their hometown. The winning images are displayed in the company’s annual calendar, which is being sold to raise money for the winners’ chosen local charities. Gina selected Woof Beginnings, which raises funds for independent dog rescues, while Simon chose The Rainbow Centre, which provides support for all who need help within Castle Ward in Scarborough.

Jonathan Best, Regional Manager at Emo Oil, said: “Gina and Simon’s photos were chosen because they superbly represent their local areas and showcase the abundance of artistic inspiration.

“The photography competition is our way of reaching out to local communities, while giving something back and raising funds for local charities such as Woof Beginnings and The Rainbow Centre.”
